"Auld Lang Syne" Cell and Developmental Biology of Xenopus

At the first CSHL course that Paul Krieg and I organized (1997) we were a bit frantic with keeping all the various activities on track and successful. In appreciation of our efforts under fire, the class of 1997 wrote and performed for us the following, sung to the tune of Auld Lang Syne.

We came to Cold Spring Harbor Lab, as innocent as lambs.
And now we leave all sleep deprived, with plasmids in our hands.
We learned to eat from Styrofoam, while listening in a fog.
We massaged toads, dejellied eggs, and bonded with our frogs.

Now watching Kristin macerate made some of our class squirm
But still we ground our testes up because we needed sperm.
We pulled pipets and broke pipets and pulled pipets some more
And watched the flow expel the tip and end up on the floor.

That Aaron is a clever boy; we all have seen him shine.
Yes, Aaron is a foosball star and he holds his liquor fine.
He helped us wash and view our preps till early in the morn.
We'll raise a glass of Killian's to auld lang Zorn.

And Kristy, our solution wench, kept reactions running well
And brought us coffee just in time to rescue us from Hell.
We nagged her every single day; she never got upset.
She is the brightest grad student, that we have ever met!

The Aussie kept his troops in line, tho we drove him up the wall.
The weather was especially nice (perhaps we must thank Paul!)
And Dr. Krieg's religious faith did carry us quite far...
We're only sad that we did not do PA-PCR.

Well, Sally feared the course would be a huge horrific mess
But we are here to testify that she has passed the test.
Her efforts led to great success, as everyone can see
Despite that fact that she cannot weight out the DAB.

Should old acquaintance be forgot, and never brought to mind
Should old acquaintance be forgot and days of auld lang syne.
For auld lang syne, my dear, for auld lang syne.
We'll take a cup of kindness yet, for auld lang syne!
