My fondest memory of Dr. McClintock was one Sunday morning in February, I was watering the maize plants in the greenhouse. I was a little hung over and feeling sorry for myself for the prior indulgence when in walks Rob Martienssen with Dr. McClintock. I could tell from the body language of both of them that something very important was about to happen. I quickly got my camera and asked if I could take a few pictures while they worked. She looked up at me and without hesitating said, "I have been known to break camera equipment." I said I would take the chance, raised the camera and hurriedly took a shot and went back to the hose.
When the picture was developed, I realized that it was a moment in time when the mentor passes the torch to the student and I was lucky enough to be there and record it.
