Symposium 2003 Final Summation
All and all we got through 10 speakers and then the last speaker who was going to give a final talk, Maynard Olson. At that point everything shut down; all the lights. It must have been a combination of us and IT because by the last talk, for the summation, everything went down. The emergency power came on. We had no power left for anything but everyone had piled in for that talk and the whole lab was here so you could not even walk through the aisles and he was standing there, in the heat, with a flashlight, giving his talk.

We had a blackout earlier in the year, they were doing the wrap up for the symposium, the symposium summary, and we lost power. There was no amplification or lights so we gave the speaker a flashlight and we figured that since the auditorium was getting brutally hot he would probably wrap it up quick. Well, he spoke for about an hour and a half. He spoke so long that the lights actually came on towards the end of the lecture. He said forget my powerpoint I am just going to talk.
