Thanksgiving feasts for CSHL staff
When Blackford Hall was finished renovations in 1992, Susan Cooper revived the tradition of pot-luck Thanksgiving feasts for any interested staff. As the new Library Manager, I was asked to organize it (even though I am Canadian), which included making sure there was enough of each type of dish. Jim Hope's food services staff provided the turkeys but we had to carve them. Irving Toliver and my husband Scott were the carvers. My husband still remembers looking down as he was carving and seeing somebody's hand picking at the turkey. He looked up to see that he had almost cut the fingers of Jim Watson! Despite the near miss, a good time was had by all, and the variety of dishes from around the world that graced the tables made for a memorable feast.
