Default CSH and SOS

During the 1973 CSH Symposium, I was writing the first text to be published on the "SOS Hypothesis." To make sure that I wanted to keep the name for the cellular process of recovery from stress (by sending a distress signal), I asked John Cairns, "SOS stands for 'Save our Souls' or 'Save Our Ship'?" When he answered, "Save Our Ship," I said, "OK, I'll keep the name!"
