Meetings: Organizers & Attendees Reginald Harris, then Director of the Biological Laboratory, initiated the first Symposium in 1933. Today over 8,000 scientists come to the laboratory each year to attend meetings. What special moments do you recall from your participation in or organization of these meetings?

Default CSHL-A Scientific Mecca

I remember being a graduate student attending my first CSH meeting in 1989 or 1991. It was the Eukaryotic DNA Replication meeting, just as we registered students received a re-imbursement check--since Bruce Stillman and Thomas Kelly had done so well in raising funds, the students won the benefit! What a start to CSH. As the meeting went on I felt that I was in a scientific Mecca, where the greatest scientists had gathered, many of whom I had long discussions over meals and beers. Now after many years I recognize that not only were the best scientists of that time gathered there but those that would become the best were also there. Kudos to CSH for doing what you do so well!
